Autism and Mercury Link - Electric Power Plants?

Some parents worried about their children being exposed to mercury and triggering autism have focused their attention on trace amounts of mercury in vaccine for diphtheria and some flu vaccines. Power plants ‘not making a dent’ in mercury emissions

• Power plant mercury emissions have actually risen since 2000 (the first year this data was reported) in several states, including Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Texas, and others.

AEP’s Gavin Power Plant in Ohio emitted 937 pounds of mercury in 2008, a 115.4 percent increase from 2007. This drastic increase in mercury emissions appears to be due largely to a change in the coal burned at the plant in 2008.Read more at blogs.wvgazette.com

Uranium Mining Begins at Grand Canyon

Thousands of Claims Threaten Public Health and Sacred Lands
Denison plans on extracting 335 tons of uranium per day out of the “Arizona 1 Mine”, which is set to operate four days per week. The hazardous ore will be hauled by truck more than 300 miles through towns and communities to the company’s White Mesa mill located near Blanding, Utah.

Wonder what the half-life of hate is? Neo-Nazis?

The half-life of Radium 226 is 1,620 years. Hitler killed himself in 1945 (65 years in 2010). I knew a Russian Jewish emigre in Mexico whose family fled Russian because of an anti-Jewish pogrom after the failed 1905 Russian revolution. Serbs in 1980-1990s Kosovo were killing Muslims over battles in 1369 and a second one in 1448 against the Ottoman Empire. Northe... read more

DRC: Militias causing increased havoc in northeast
Attacks on civilians by Ugandan rebels and local militias have left 340,000 people displaced, and 30,000 refugees have fled to Sudan.
Aid workers say 100,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) are inaccessible due to insecurity in Uélé District.
The joint DRC-Uganda military operation from 14 December 2008 until mid-March 2009 weakened the LRA but did not succeed in neutralizing it. The rebels dispersed in small, highly mobile groups into territory five times bigger than before the operation, according to civil society groups in Ituri. Read more at www.irinnews.org

Engineered trees are not a forest; they are forest killers

Diversity is the natural way of ensuring survival of the planet. Industrial tree farms threaten real forests and in the American south, eucalyptus trees would drink up all the water and endanger all the swamps and the Everglades.
